Sir Ken Robinson

A little to do with creativity...this is one of my favourite speakers on creativity and education. Sir Ken Robinson spoke at the 2010 TED conference as a follow up to his speech given in 2006. Watch and enjoy!

Living Room Transformation

I'm getting close to achieving the look I hoped for in my living room. But before I reveal the finished product I wanted to show some before picutres! Stay tuned for the final product!

Family Wall Montage

I've always loved the look of a photo montage, especially those of family memories or portraits. What I dislike is the cost associated with matting and framing prints. Some craft stores will charge hundreds of dollars for the frames and the templates to configure where your prints will be hung.

I wanted the look in my own home without the cost. So I went to Ikea! For under $100 I was able to purchase 7 frames to get the same look. I didn't want everything in the same black frame. Instead, I opted for one silver frame and one white frame to add some interest. I can change the photos in these frames for years to come, and I didn't break the bank in achieving a look I love!

Welcome!

I called my blog Colouring Outside the Lines, because designing in my home requires thinking outside of the box! Here's why:

My husband is very conscience about budgeting (others may call it cheap, out of love I call it frugal!). But what he has taught me is that you don't need to pay high prices to have high style. It's all about being creative, having a good eye for colour, knowing how to coordinate, and, most importantly, how to find a good deal.
My hope is to show how I have started to make a home for our family using these tools and some other resources or ideas I have used along the way.

My husband and I have moved 7 times in the last 5 years. We have purchased new places, and lived in basements of in-laws and apartments while waiting for our home to be built. Its' my dream that our current home is the one we stay in for a while!

With all the moves, my husband and I have learned what finishes we love and ones we'd prefer to do without. As well we're very fortunate that we agree on style. We both like more contemporary colours and furniture, clean lines and looking crisp.

Stay tuned! I'll be writing about how I'm starting to transform our living room on a budget.
